CIMA to advise Bangladeshi colleagues Print E-mail
Wednesday, 31 October 2007
The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) will lead a project to strengthen the capabilities of the main accountancy body in Bangladesh.

The contract was signed in Bangladesh between Shawkat Waresi, Project Director at the Bangladeshi Ministry of Commerce and CIMA. With assistance from the World Bank, CIMA was chosen to be the sole expert supplier on a project that will provide a model for other World Bank projects with CIMA in developing countries. The project is being funded entirely by the World Bank.

Gordon Grant, CIMA President, explained that Bangladesh is a growing economy with potential to attract significant inward investment. He said that it is therefore vital that its people are equipped with the appropriate level of financial and management skills to further grow this expanding economy.

Under this Economic Management Technical Assistance Project (EMTAP), funded by the World Bank and supported by the Ministry of Commerce in Bangladesh, CIMA has agreed to transfer its knowledge from the UK to the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) using CIMA strategic, technical and operational experts who have already spent time with ICMAB in Bangladesh. The team will return to Dhaka in November 2007 and February 2008.
