Union says sale of some of Dairy Farmers of Britain sites is 'deplorable'.

PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has drawn criticism from union Usdaw over the closure and sale of various sites under their receivership.

Usdaw said that they were not consulted in the process and therefore some of their members were put at risk.

Dairy Farmers of Britain is a cooperative that owned various dairies across Britain guaranteeing their members a fair price for their milk.

However some 400 farmers were not able to negotiate contracts with new buyers and as a result have put their hands in the fate of the receiver - PwC.

Usdaw have accused PwC of choosing not to speak directly with the union instead passing information through the press.

"Many of the workers at Dairy Farmers of Britain have been at the company for years and the way that this has been handled by the receivers has made a devastating situation worse.  We will be fighting tooth and nail to recover additional monies on behalf of our members given the failure to consult," says John Gorle, National Officer of Usdaw.

It is believed that the union will now start engaging the government directly in order to seek stricter regulations for PwC.
