Arena Leisure plc has appointed Antony Harris as its new finance director.
Harris, 39, is the former chief financial officer of The UNITE Group plc and was previously vice president finance (Europe & Africa, and Nordic regions) at Hilton International.He takes up the finance director role at Arena on 1 May 2008. Harris qualified as a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen in 1993. He then spent thirteen years working in the hotel industry, first with Inter-Continental Hotels Group and then, for the bulk of this period, with Hilton International. As vice president finance at Hilton International, Harris was responsible for 230 hotels operating across 35 countries. With Arena (LSE:ARE) having recently received planning permission for three hotels to be located at Doncaster, Lingfield Park and Wolverhampton Racecourses, the group said that Harris’ experience would be invaluable as Arena embarks upon a period of expansion. Bob Mercer will remain as chief financial officer and company secretary and will play a vital role in ensuring that Arena delivers its three major development projects on time and on budget, continues to drive an increasing profit stream from its extensive racecourse assets and unlocks value from the surplus land assets within its freehold property portfolio.
