Former Lehman Brothers Europe Managing Director appointed to DB's Global Banking Business.

Deutsche Bank (FRA:DBK) announced today the appointment of Maarten van Berckel, 51, as a Managing Director in its Global Banking business covering Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Mr. Van Berckel will be based at Deutsche Bank's office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Mr. Van Berckel was a Managing Director of Lehman Brothers International (Europe) and Chief Executive Officer of Lehman Brothers Benelux.

Mr. Van Berckel's hiring is the third significant investment by Deutsche Bank in its Benelux franchise this year. In May, Deutsche Bank hired Nick Aperghis, a senior investment banker from JPMorgan, and in July, the bank announced its plans to acquire certain commercial banking activities of ABN AMRO from Fortis.

Stephan Leithner, Head of Global Country Coverage at Deutsche Bank, said: "We are pleased  that Maarten has joined our investment banking team and believe that he will be of great value to our clients as we continue to invest in building our Benelux franchise."

Mr. Van Berckel joined Lehman Brothers in 2000 from MeesPierson Investment Banking where he was the Chairman of MeesPierson Investment Bank and a Board Member of Fortis Bank Nederland.

While at MeesPierson, Mr. Van Berckel was responsible for all equity related Investment Banking activities of MeesPierson (Corporate Finance & Capital Markets; Derivatives, Sales, Trading, Research and Private equity).  In this capacity, he advised on numerous cross border M&A transactions and IPOs on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange and EASDAQ.  Prior to joining MeesPierson, Mr. Van Berckel worked at Morgan Stanley and Royal Dutch Shell.

Mr. Van Berckel holds an MBA from Insead and a degree in Dutch Law from Leiden University.
