Monday, 03 December 2007
Former Tesco Liz Doherty has started her employment with Brambles Limited as chief financial officer.

She has also been appointed to the board of Brambles with effect from 1 December 2007. Doherty succeeds the previous chief financial officer of Brambles, Mike Ihlein, who became chief executive officer of Brambles on 1 July 2007.

Sydney-based Brambles is the owner of CHEP pallets and containers and Recall data management.

CHEP is the global leader in pallet and container pooling services. It employs 7,700 people and supports more than 300,000 customer locations. CHEP issues, collects, repairs and re-issues about 285 million pallets and containers from its global network of over 450 service centres.

Recall is a global leader in the management of information throughout its life cycle, providing secure storage, retrieval and destruction of physical and digital documents. Over 4,500 Recall team members service almost 80,000 customers worldwide.

Doherty resigned as Tesco’s group international finance director in September, after six years. She was accountable for Tesco's corporate finance and accounting functions, including controllership, planning and reporting, both corporate and indirect taxation and, until end 2006, treasury.

She was responsible for providing support for risk, insurance and pensions and accountable for operational finance within the international division as well as financial systems and applications and the development of finance talent.

Doherty previously had a long career with Unilever Plc in increasingly senior operating finance roles based in a number of locations, including Asia and Europe.

She is based at Brambles' global headquarters in Sydney, Australia. Brambles operates in over 45 countries around the world. In the year to the end of June 2007, Brambles' sales totalled US$3.9 billion.
