Morgan Stanley in investment business appointment

Morgan Stanley hire one of Wall Street's most prominent bankers.

 

Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) has appointed one of Wall Street's most prominent banking figures to its investment management business.

 

Morgan Stanley has hired Gregory Fleming to be President of Morgan Stanley Investment Management, he will start in February.

His scope of operation will include asset management, merchant banking and research.

Prior to Morgan Stanley Fleming worked at Merrill Lynch as President and Chief Operating Officer.

Fleming joined Merrill Lynch as an investment banker in 1992, and helped run Merrill's global markets and investment banking group before becoming president and COO in 2007.

Fleming was a key player in the combination of Merrill Lynch Investment Management with money manager BlackRock Inc., where he served as a director. While at Merrill Lynch, he also oversaw the firm's private equity and real estate investment businesses.

Morgan Stanley shares closed 1.49% lower at 29.78 on Wall Street on Friday.
