Richard Chadwick has been appointed as a non-executive Finance Director at SpaceandPeople plc.

After qualifying as a chartered accountant, Chadwick, 56, went to Montreal with KPMG where he specialised in retailing. Moving back to the UK after 5 years, he joined J Sainsbury plc where he has remained for the last 27 years and held many senior finance positions including director of business development, director of corporate finance and director of audit & risk.

He was responsible for the launch of Sainsbury's Bank in 1997 and was deputy chief executive for 3 years. He was on the board of Shaw's Supermarkets in the US and JS Developments in the UK prior to their sale by Sainsbury's. He remains a trustee of their pension funds.

Glasgow-based SpaceandPeople (LSE:SAL) markets, sells and administers promotional space in a variety of high footfall venues across the UK, including shopping centres, service stations and airports.

A website and dedicated call centre allow advertisers and brands to book space for short-term retailing and marketing promotions on a national basis. SpaceandPeople is currently expanding into France and Germany.

In the six months up to 30 April 2007, the company’s billings were up 23 per cent to £5.25 million, with turnover over by 5 per cent to £954,329. Pre-tax profits rose by 70 per cent to £241,643.

David Henderson Williams, chairman of SpaceandPeople commented: “Richard’s experience both in the UK and overseas at a very senior level will undoubtedly aid us in our overseas expansion. His retail and finance background will be invaluable as we look to take the company forward in the coming year.”

SpaceandPeople also announced a reorganisation of the senior directors, with Matthew Bending now acting as group chief executive and Nancy Cullen as group chief operating officer for the company.
